Submitting an application to American Beauty Academy is your first step toward earning your professional cosmetology license. Once your application is accepted, your journey to becoming a licensed beauty professional in Utah is underway!
Cosmetology License Requirements
Utah requires that you graduate from licensed and accredited cosmetology or barbering program in order to apply for your professional license. We provide the full 1,600 hours of instructional training that the State of Utah requires, in both full-time or part-time schedules. American Beauty Academy also has the cosmetology school accreditation that meets Utah's standards for licensure.
Once you've completed your 1,600 hours of training, you can take the necessary tests to obtain your license. The State of Utah administers both a written test and a skills test. After completing your coursework at American Beauty College, you will have all the skills needed to breeze through these tests.
After passing the tests, you can submit your application for your professional cosmetology license with the State of Utah and pay the fee for your first license!
It's really just three easy steps:
- Graduate with 1,600 hours of training
- Take the two required State of Utah Tests
- Apply for your license!

Utah Cosmetology License Renewal
Professional licenses for barbers and cosmetologists expire on September 30 of every odd-numbered year in the State of Utah. About two months before the expiration of your license, the State Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) will mail a renewal notice to the address they have on file for you.
If you renew before the September 30 deadline, it's a simple process of filling out an online form at the Utah Cosmetology License Renewal site. If you miss the deadline and your license lapses, it's not the end of the world. You can apply for reinstatement of your license with a paper form from the same website.
