Learn More About Our Barber School

American Beauty Academy’s barber program teaches the most important facets of the art of barbering as well as the professional business strategies and customer services training. Our students can learn how to deliver exceptional customer service, build a clientele, and maintain efficient barbershop management.

We do this all in an environment that strives to meet our student’s needs. With a combination of hands-on coursework and demonstrations, we hope our curriculum matches each student’s learning style. As an added benefit, after completing the freshman portion of our course, students can arrange their school schedule to suit their already busy schedule.

Get Real Experience

As a student at our school, you can get more clinic floor time, which means more hands-on education practicing the skills that can help you in your future endeavors. Plus, with small class sizes, you get the personalized attention you deserve. Also expect to learn from regular Guest Artists to teach you the latest trends and methods.

We cultivate the knowledge and skills you need in order to sit for the Utah state board exam. From scalp and hair anatomy and health, haircutting, styling, tapering, and fading, to the art of shaving and grooming facial hair, to the fine points of barbershop business management, you can graduate well prepared for the barbering industry.

Frequently Asked Questions About Barbering School

A new future as a professional barber in this growing industry presents a wide world of opportunities for career-minded people who are ready for the challenge. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions from new barber school applicants, to help as you begin to develop your understanding of this exciting field.

What Is the Difference Between Barbering and Cosmetology?

Both barbers and cosmetologists wash, cut, and style hair. However, barbers are typically more associated with providing these services for men’s hairstyling and care, whereas cosmetologists serve both women and men. Beyond hairstyling, cosmetologists also perform and may even specialize in one or more other grooming services, such as facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and application of makeup.

Both types of professionals must obtain the applicable licensure.

How Long Does It Take to Become a Barber? (How long is barber school?)

The barber training course for full-time students at American Beauty Academy is 1,000 clock hours. The schedule is 37.5 hours per week. The course must be completed within 29 weeks from the student’s starting date.

Our part-time barber training can be completed in 54 weeks, attending 20 hours per week. You can choose the class schedule that works for you to achieve your dreams of becoming a licensed barber.

Do You Need a High School Diploma to Go to Barber School?

There may be certain circumstances where we are able to accept students without a high school diploma. We take a look at the entire application and do not rule anybody in or out based on a single factor alone. We do offer opportunities for current high school students to start their barbering education while they’re still in school.

Are There Barber School Scholarships?

Yes! There are abundance of opportunities for scholarships to barbering school. We’ve listed some scholarship opportunities currently available for aspiring barbers. You can view the scholarship list here.
