Not all cosmetology schools are accredited. Be aware of which beauty schools in your area are accredited before enrolling. Official accreditation is necessary for students of a school to be assured of receiving the kind of education that will qualify them for a cosmetology license afterward. This is although some unaccredited schools may maintain high training standards. The difference is that an accredited cosmetology school is a validated educational institution that has proven to meet the necessary criteria for accreditation.

Check online for listings of cosmetology schools in your area. Some school directories are searchable by your zip code. Narrow your search to accredited schools exclusively, to shorten your list of options and help make your choice of schools easier. Also, eliminate schools from your list that do not offer the full curriculum necessary for you to obtain a comprehensive cosmetology education. Choose a school that is within a reasonable travel distance.
Some cosmetology schools may allow you to transfer all or some of your earned credit hours from a program you were previously enrolled in. Permission to transfer hours is likely to depend mostly on the types of courses you have completed and the particular school you formerly attended. Generally, a school considering a transfer will want to determine that the hours completed at the other institution are of equal educational value to their own program.
Yes, a comprehensive cosmetology training program includes nail care education, along with hair and skin treatment. The best cosmetology schools also offer continuing education courses on many topics in cosmetology. These include more extensive learning in the finer points of nail care treatment and advanced techniques.
Under some special circumstances, some parts of a cosmetology program may be offered online. But, generally, a cosmetology education requires a lot of hands-on training. Students must practice hairstyling, skin treatments, nail care, and associated tasks all under the guidance of qualified instructors. So, it is necessary to build the skills through practice in the onsite student salon.
Cosmetology jobs are jobs predicted to grow by as much as 19 percent over just the next four years! Many opportunities for hairdressers, barbers, estheticians, and others seeking cosmetology careers continue to grow with demand and as technologies and techniques advance. The beauty industry is continuously changing, which creates an ever-increasing demand for professionals with proficiencies in popular services.

Cosmetologists, hairstylists, barbers, and other specialists in the field may average up to $50k annually. However, some are known to earn as high as $100,000 per year for their high-demand services and luxury treatments. These figures include tips. As in many other professions, income in cosmetology is often at least partially driven by region, local location, competition, salon size, and the individual client base.

Cosmetology students complete their first eight weeks of training in the Freshman program, learning the basics of hair, skin, and nail treatment processes. They practice their newly developing skills on mannequins. After completing the initial eight weeks of foundational training, students may require additional help in these areas. Or, they will move on to the Junior program. At this training level, students attend cosmetology classes and receive abundant hands-on experience in our student salon.
