Standard Requirements for Cosmetology School
Choosing to go to cosmetology school can be an exciting step, but we also know how daunting it can be as well. We’re here to make it easier on you to help you know what is needed for your enrollment. Before enrollment, applicants may have an interview. Two of the required documents for admission are proof of age and current educational status:
Proof of Age
Students of all ages enjoy cosmetology school and go on to successful careers in the industry. In most states, you must be at least 16 years of age in order to meet admission requirements for cosmetology school. But in Utah, you must be at least 17 years old.
The only criterion for enrollment that is age-related is a document showing proof of your age. American Beauty Academy requires a high school diploma, GED, or a training agreement with your high school for students who want to start cosmetology courses while still in high school. Any one of these three documents is acceptable to confirm that an applicant is at least 17 years of age. So, you need just one of these three:
- Driver’s license
- Birth certificate
- State identification card
Proof of Educational Status
Any of these four documents is acceptable to confirm that an applicant has achieved the necessary level of education to qualify for enrollment in cosmetology school:
- High school diploma
- High school transcript
- Certificate of G.E.D.
